THE PHOTOGRAPHERS THE TEACHER |
What do students say about Street Photography: Finding Order in Chaos? > Forced to think and create Although, I have enjoyed all the classes at PPSOP, Street Photography has been my favorite. It has forced me to think and create. I really enjoyed the challenge of going out into the streets of New York and capturing images without being discovered but also enjoyed making connections with people when I was discovered. At first, I felt very vulnerable but once I became more comfortable, I found that in the midst of all the chaos in the world, where technology makes it easier to isolate, that we are all still human and need to have person to person interaction. I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly and open people were to being photographed. The pink Holga may have helped. I loved this class! It has awakened in me a whole new venue in which to express myself. --Hilary Mullarkey, Long Island, NY >Fresh ideas The Street Photography class by Mason Resnick was superb. In a short time I got a whole new angle on an intriguing facet of photography I had never considered. Anyone interested in getting some fresh ideas about photography should take this course even if their primary interests are in other areas of photography. The world of Street Photography opened my eyes to a new way to see my world from my front door through the rest of the world (a long street). --Earl Martinelli, San Fransisco, CA (completed course March 2008) > Approaching strangers "The Street Photography course gave me a lot of different ideas, both technical and creative, about how to get better photographs of strangers in my city. It will take much more than the four weeks to practice them and get them all working together at once. The hardest is developing the ability to "see" the photographic potential of different situations. I already miss having the assignments to work on each week." --Mike Bridge, Edmonton, Canada (completed course March 2008) > Overcoming shyness The class helped me overcome and give reasons to go out and do a specific style of shooting, I would definitely recommend this class to any one shy of taking close up shotsof strangers. The hard part about it is to get scientific, like what makes a good shot and what doesn't always a challenge. Overall good stuff. --Daniel Boromisa, Denver, CO (completed course March 2008) >A Passion Ignited "I knew absolutely nothing about street photography before taking this course. All I knew was that people-photography was a subject that might interest me. This street photography course: 'Finding Order in Chaos' is wonderfully practical from the very first lesson, and yet it provides great study materials, too, that form an excellent theoretical introduction to the genre. "Absolutely integral to the course are the critiques provided by the tutor Mason Resnick. These provide really helpful and insightful comments that motivate you to go out again and again to try new approaches and practice essential skills - learning to be invisible in a crowd, whilst taking pictures (with a wide-angle lens) of people less than fifteen feet away, is no easy task, but it gives you a real buzz when you pull it off. "This course has changed forever my understanding of the art of photography. It has ignited in me a passion for photography that I'm finding difficult to contain. A great course!" --Mike Mackay, Lichfield, U.K. (completed course January 2008) >Eyes opened I have always felt that the best photographs are those that capture moments that most people are oblivious too. After taking this class I have come to realize that Street Photography is the epitome of this art. Mason Resnick has been an extremely dedicated instructor for this class, and he has opened my eyes to a whole new type of photography and made me aware that there are photographs everywhere in our daily travels. While finding order in the chaos of daily living is easier said than done, the rewards of a well-captured image are as rewarding to me as any type of photography that I have attempted. I am excited that I have been taught the fundamentals that inspire me to continue to try and capture the special moments that surround us all. --Gary Budke, St. Louis (completed course January 2008)
